SEO

If you are relatively new to the world of search engine marketing, you may have heard the term "SEO content" being put up in marketing meetings.

This Beginners Guide is designed to answer three questions:

What is "SEO content"?
What types of SEO content are available?
What is my search engine content strategy?

If you have any questions about SEO strategies that I'm not answering here, let me know in the comments and I'll answer them here or in a future blog post.
Let's get started!

What is SEO content?
To understand what marketers mean with SEO content, it's useful to divide this phrase into its constituent parts:

"SEO" means optimizing your search engine, or optimizing your website so people can easily find it across search engines like Google.
Through "Content", we mean any information that lives on the web and can be consumed on the web (learn more about the different types of content below).
So, put these two concepts together: SEO content is any content created to attract search engine traffic.

I will not tell you everything you need to know about improving your content for search engines here; this is the complete guide. But here's a very quick update about what you'll need to do to improve your site's content:

Keyword Search: If you want to generate traffic through search, it's best to do a keyword search before you start typing. This way, you can focus on keywords that already have a certain volume of search volume - in other words, writing to the topics people are already searching for information about.

Keyword optimization: Learn where and how keywords are used in your content for maximum search. (SEOMoz offers a great guide to improvement on the page.)
Organize content: Content must be organized on your site in a logical way. This is not only good for search engine optimization but also helps visitors on your site find other relevant content easily. (The longer they stay on your site, the better).

Promote content: Increase the visibility of new content you create by sharing it on social networks and creating links to your content (internally or from external sites).
Keyword Search, such as Keyword Niche Finder, helps you identify specific topics to target in search engine content.

A quick word about intentions
It's important to keep in mind that if your search engine traffic is your only goal, your results will likely suffer. In order to satisfy both search engines (which will reward you with high rankings over time) and potential customers and visiting visitors, you need to provide higher value than the search engine optimization. In other words, it does not create "thin" content that sorts and gets clicks, but does not provide any additional value to the search engine user. Sites that promote "high" low-value content are at risk of being penalized by Google; they tend to have high bounce rates and low conversion rates.

Types of SEO content

SEO content can include any of the following:
Product pages - These are bread and butter for any retail e-commerce site. A good product page can serve as both a SEO content and a PPC intended page.

Blog Posts - Blogging is one of the easiest ways to create a regular stream of SEO content. In general, blog posts are more attractive and more likely to attract links from product pages, so it can be a great way to build some power for your site. (Keep in mind that blogs are very flexible and you can use them to host any of the content below in this list.)

Articles - An article of intellectual news, an interview, or a distinctive piece. This is the main type of content you'll find on most newspaper and magazine websites.

Menus - The list is actually just a type of article, but setting it up as a list (like "10 ways to lower your energy bill" or "101 things I hate about Google") makes scanning easier. These types of titles seem more clickable when found in search results or in social feeds.

Evidence - The guide is longer content that explains in detail how something works. (Directories are often broken down into multiple webpages, although it is best practice to allow users to view long content as a single page if they want to.) You can publish a complete directory on your website, or you can post a summary or excerpts of a visitor's request to fill out a form Register to read the complete guide. This can be a good way to generate leads, but keep in mind that setting up the sign-in wall will probably reduce the number of search engine traffic you can drive to this directory.

Videos - In general, fewer videos are on the web than text pages, so it may be easier to rank them on the first page for a competitive keyword by creating a video instead of an article. Depending on the type of site or business you manage, videos can be a great way to engage and reach your audience. You can create educational videos on how to use your products.
